Samenvatting

The following 3 models of workers' participation in industrial management are discussed: (1) joint consultation (Britain), (2) qualified codetermination (West German coal and steel), and (3) workers self-management (Yugoslavia). After a description of each model, the 3 are analyzed and compared along the theoretical variables 'timing' and 'comprehensiveness'. The variable 'timing' indicates participation at 6 stages and steps in the process of managerial decision making. The variable 'comprehensiveness' indicates participation at 3 major levels of the macro industrial system. Using various weighing procedures, scores for 'timing' and 'comprehensiveness' are computed. Using the formula 'timing scores x comprehensiveness scores', 3 'total control' scores are computed for each model. Of the 3 models, qualified codetermination provides the workers with the highest degree of 'total control' in managerial decision making. 4 tables, 3 figures. AA
