Samenvatting

Statistics were obtained in 176 Dutch communities concerning the f of various forms of sick and deviant behavior for the period 1958 to 1962. Factor analysis of 30 variables resulted in 2 factors: (1) legitimate, ritualistic, escapist, nonaggressive, and (2) illegitimate, active, aggressive. On the basis of this, 2 indices were formed: flight behavior and aggressive behavior. Both were found to be positively correlated with the degree of urbanization of the community. Flight behavior as a type of coping was found to be most prevalent in the area called the Randstad, the heavily-populated area between Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Aggressive behavior is more prevalent in the southern provinces of Limburg and North Brabant. What remains to be determined is the influence of the se factors on coping behavior, the opportunities for relaxation and recreation, etc. 6 tables. P. Tiersma
