Samenvatting

To understand the process of political mobilization in China, it is necessary to become familiar with the goals of the movement. The goal of mobilization in China is always political. It involves all aspects of life, no matter how far removed from politics they may seem. The mobilization which has occurred since the 1940's has been of 2 types: (1) mobilization against a common enemy, and (2) mobilization "within the ranks of the people." 3 ideological points essential to mobilization are: (a) the class struggle, (b) the mass line (that efforts like mobilization come from the masses), and (c) the multidimensionality of the individual (which stresses that all people be aware of what others are doing; eg students sent to work in fields and factories). The most easily mobilized, even at present, are the peasants, especially the previously landless. P. Tiersma.
