Samenvatting

The Dutch ministry of education and sciences has recently encouraged the establishment of interuniversity institutes of various kinds. It is not certain how useful this is, however, for often in these cases the actual use of such an institute is in the hands of people from one university. The result is that research and education are de facto separated from each other. It Is necessary to work out some alternative whereby there is more interaction between the interuniversity institute and the participating universities, perhaps by having each university do specific projects, or by having members of the institute spend a certain amount of time teaching at the universities.
