Samenvatting

Egbert Tellegen managed to pull off quite a stunt when, in accepting his academic appointment, he did not deliver his public lecture, but rather had it published and distributed earlier and then devoted the public lecture to discussing the contents. The lecture was an appeal for "free people" and the establishment of a new social order in the Netherlands. The central problem of present society is alienation, which would not be a factor in the new order. The enthusiastic young people who follow this radical sociology are in for an eventual disappointment. P. Tiersma
