C. J. Lammers summarized some requirements which he sees as requisite to an adequate training in the field of sociology. Among them are: (1) everyone's personal taste, (2) the 'value' standard of a theory, & (3) the 'social effect' of a theory. His goal is a more positive sociology concept through the application of scientific standards. By 'scientific standards' he means the evidence or the 'truth standard' of a theory. However, this truth standard should be primary & should surmount the 'value' standard. Among today's sociologists, there is little inclination to respect the 'truth' criteria; for some, 'empirical' takes on a slightly obscene sound & there is staggering evidence of manipulation of facts. Everyone manipulates simple data to conform to a personal political ideology. E. Preston.
