Samenvatting

The social sciences have faced discord by making their objectives become subjects &, unlike other disciplines, in taking on an added dimension of reflectivity. Until controversies arose between the resident theoretical school & the philosophical school, the social world was governed by its own power & rules. The controversies drew into the open the individuals who make up & maintain the social world, as well as the unions, the groups, organizations, institutions, & long range processes. This function of social institutions, resulting from decisions & actions of individuals, is called methodological individualism--an unadulterated form of reductionism. A paradox is perpetuated: institutions rise because men exist, & whenever men rise up institutions exist. E. Preston.
