Samenvatting

An attempt is made to define the concepts "sociology" & "image of man." Man receives a particular image of himself during his education, & also a set of expectations & norms. Effort is made to determine how & why the Western view of man is predominating in the world. There are 3 types of sociology: (1) a purely registering sociology, free from all mystifications, (2) a sociology that is firmly connected with a particular view of man, & (3) a sociology that attempts to be objective, but is at the same time aware that it is determined by some mystification.
