Samenvatting

An attempt is made to define the concepts "sociology" & "image of man." Man receives a particular image of himself during his education, & also a set of expectations & norms. Effort is made to determine how & why the Western view of man is predominating in the world. There are 3 types of sociology: (1) a purely registering sociology, free from all mystifications, (2) a sociology that is firmly connected with a particular view of man, & (3) a sociology that attempts to be objective, but is at the same time aware that it is determined by some mystification. This 3rd type is considered as being the best. I. Verluyten.
