Samenvatting

A scheme is proposed for inventory of the numerous publications on the "affluent society." 3 categories of basic elements are distinguished: (1) historical elements, (2) sector-characteristics (for each of these 2 categories a series of subcategories & variations is proposed), & (3) approximation-types. The 1st level of this last category consists in describing each historical phase & each sector separately; the 2nd level is of a critical-evaluative nature--it points out the goals & attempts to determine whether or not these have been achieved; the 3rd level presents a counter-project. The possibility of a 4th level is noted: it should attempt to examine possibilities for the future. A brief review of the situation in the Netherlands is included. I. Verluyten.
