Samenvatting

Anthropological literature offers little information about women & a theoretical framework within which to describe societies in terms of the ideas & activities of their women. This phenomenon is called 'viricentrism'. A 'viricentric' tendency is noted in the work of several authors: Levi-Strauss, R. Fox, & J. Boissevain, as well as in the lives of several women anthropologists, who had not been touched by the feminist movements & yet had to make careers in a man's world. The gender of the investigator is a matter of importance for anthropology; Ms have little access to what constitutes the world of women in foreign cultures. Cultural anthropology must discover women as 'social actors' since they contribute equally to the constitution of societies. Modified HA.
