Samenvatting

The textbooks in use at a primary school were analyzed to discover the Male & Female role images they present to students. The roles present a conventional image of the activities & behavior of Ms & Fs: Fs live at home & care for their husbands & children; men have an outside occupation & take action in the world outside the family. The children's role images in this school were identified by means of a questionnaire. Ten situations were presented & twenty-nine questions were asked relative to role situations. In each case, the R had to identify the character (father, mother, M child or F child) most likely to do (or have done) some action related to the situation. No great difference was found between the image presented in the books & the M/F role images proposed by the children. 9 Tables. Modified HA.
