Samenvatting

There are three citations in P.J.H. Kapteyn's work ("De Sociogenese van het woord 'taboe' in West-Europa; of 'De Edele Wild' en de 18de eeuwswe burgerij" [Sociogenesis of the Word 'Tabu' in Western Europe; The Noble Savage and the 18th Century Bourgeoisie], Sociologische Gids, 1975, 22, 6). The interpretation of the text by De Bourgainville is based on an inaccurate English translation: he does not praise the noble savage but the nature around him. He is not a moralist. A citation attributed to De Bourgainville belongs, in fact, to Diderot who is a moralist. In Repliek: goed citeren valt nicht mee [Reply: It is not Fitting To Quote Accurately], P.J.H. Kapteyn accepts the criticisms but points out that they do not affect his project in any way. A. Orianne.
