Samenvatting

D. L. Phillips's Anbandoning Method (London: Jossey Bass, 1973) is reviewed from a sociology of science perspective. Epistemological assumptions, based on Wittgenstein, are discussed. Phillips's main argument - that sociology could be improved by abandoning method & that, consequently, the work of sociology should be defined as a 'game' activity - is unjustified on the very basis of these assumptions.
