Samenvatting

Classic Marxist authors have used the concepts of 'class' & 'class consciousness' in various ways. Terms like 'production mode,' 'development stage,' & 'business-cycle analysis' are used for a bipolar class model (with an extension to certain sectors) & for a multiple model of interest groups. A similar method is observable in studies on class consciousness. Empirical research should be formulated on a three-dimensional level: (1) class consciousness, (2) the ideology of class psychology related to an analysis of the social system as a whole, & (3) action program & individual definitions of the situation. Consequently, the study of emerging classes & class sectors should be elaborated into a paradigm. 4 Figures. HA.
