Samenvatting

A theory is presented of the processes of choice & allocation of labor positions as expressing the careful weighing of desires, expectations, & possibilities. In the process of filling vacancies, four phases are distinguished: recruitment, selection, placement, & internal mobility of workers. In contrast to expectations, the implementation of measures for improving attachment to the organization does not ensure a more favorable position for firms with respect to manpower shortages or personnel turnover. Findings from a research project in this area lead to the conclusion that a number of labor market theories with mutual dependence of decision-making processes on both sides of the market are inadequate.
