Situation testing was used to investigate race discrimination in hiring personnel on the Amsterdam labor market. A black Surinamer or a Spanish migrant worker applied for 278 jobs, each time immediately followed by a white Dutchman. Race discrimination did occur; there was no significant difference between its extent for the black excolonial & the migrant worker, but it was highest on the lowest job level, & its extent varied strongly with rates of supply & demand for particular jobs. 5 Tables.
