Samenvatting

The problem of the 10% yearly rise in disability pensions in the Netherlands since 1967 is discussed. It is speculated that the recipients of disability benefits are not so much disabled as unemployed. A study was conducted on the demographic SE situation of recipients in 54 municipalities in Groningen & Drenthe. The results showed the relative insignificance of the influence of the labor market on the proportion of disability recipients in the M working population. Important factors appeared to be age (high) & education (low). Further analysis indicated big differences between the two regions, which can be explained by cultural factors (value-orientation). 6 Tables. Modified HA.
