Samenvatting

Discussed is the process of the dispossession of land owned by small farmers in semi-Urban villages on the island of Lombok, Indonesia. Through credit contracts with Balinese & Javanese merchants & large landowners from the Urban region, the farmer gradually loses the rights to his land through inability to redeem his debts. A description of the various credit contracts is given, followed by an analysis of some of the SE implications of this process. Special attention is given to the role of credit contracts & the relation between the farmer & the new owner after the land transition has been completed. Modified HA.
