Samenvatting

An answer to & expansion of an article by H. M. Jolles (see SA 29:3/81L4815). The most important features of Dutch government policy relative to the organization & financing of scientific work are discussed. The following are proposed: discussion among sociologists aimed at some degree of consensus concerning future developments, finding mechanisms to deal with centrifugal tendencies, finding channels of communication between various categories of sociologists, creating an institution that provides access to financial resources, arriving at mutual agreements concerning differentiated participation of sociological faculties & institutes within a national policy, & creating an adequate system of postacademic education.
