A review essay on Ali de Regt's Arbeidersgezinnen en beschavingsarbeid; ontwikkelingen in Nederland 1870-1940 ([Working Class Families and Social Stability through Labor: Developments in the Netherlands (1870-1940)], Amsterdam: Boom, Meppel, 1984 [see listing in IRPS No. 37]). A positive appraisal is given of de Regt's work, which explores the various components of the Wc (factory workers, farm workers, migrants, immigrants, domestic employees, etc).
