Samenvatting

Studies on professional prestige are quite common in Dutch sociology. Three key problems include: (1) establishing a scale to measure stratification; (2) determining whether the stratification is chronologically stable; & (3) deriving an intercorrelation coefficient useful in comparing data from different studies. Here, an intercorrelation coefficient is developed to relate data from F. van Heek's & E. V. W. Vercruijsse's De Nederlandse beroepsprestigestratificatie ([Dutch Professional Prestige Stratification] in Sociale stijging en daling in Nederland [Social Rise and Fall in the Netherlands], Vol 1, van Heek, F. [Ed], Leiden: Stenfert Kroese, 1958, 9-48) with data from E. J. Tobi's & A. W. Luyckx's Herkomst en toekomst van de middenstander: een studie over de beroepsmobiliteit in de middenstand ([The Origin and Future of the Middle Class: A Study on Middle Class Professional Mobility], Amsterdam: Strengholt, 1950). The new technique developed establishes a higher degree of r than was previously thought possible. 6 Tables, 1 Figure, 1 Appendix, 18 References. M. Meeks
