Samenvatting

An investigation of the extent to which a country's economic development & political regime influence its occupational prestige ladder, based on ladders for 20 industrial nations. Multivariate analysis shows that the relation between ladders for pairs of countries is higher when the countries have similar economic development & political regimes. After controlling for economic development, differences in prestige score for manual & nonmanual occupations are smallest in communist nations, intermediate in social-democratic nations, & largest in conservative nations. A similar conclusion is reached for prestige differences between skilled manual & routine nonmanual occupations. 6 Tables, 21 References. Modified HA
