Samenvatting

Feminists claim that classical anthropology is fundamentally viricentric -- focused on M thought & behavior, tending to overlook women or misrepresent them as passive & dependent -- & indeed, that women have only been visible in the literature since the 1970s. This claim is assessed through a review of well-known studies in classical anthropology between 1939 & 1956. Several authors not only examine women's domestic roles in detail but emphasize their productive & political contributions & provide quantitative assessments of their labor inputs. Further, they do not suggest in any way that culture is a M product or limit themselves to M Rs. Although M examples of viricentrism can be found in the colonial literature, it cannot be claimed that classical anthropology as a whole is viricentric. 9 References. Modified HA
