A biographical outline & a review is offered of the work of the late F. van Heek. Although slightly outdated, his studies, characterized by a unity of analysis, theory, & methodology, still are considered to be valuable contributions to the practice of sociology. His study on talent reserve (Het verborgen talent, [The Hidden Talent], 1968) was a landmark in a continuing societal discussion.
