De onzichtbare hand van de dokter: profarmacies in Kameroen

Propharmacies are small, nonprofit pharmacies in Ru Cameroon set up to solve the problem of persistent medicine shortage in government hospitals & health centers. Three case histories are analyzed in an attempt to explain why some propharmacies do not function well & collapse while others seem to flourish. Results suggest that underhand privatization of propharmacies by local MDs is responsible for the success of some propharmacies. The articulation between formal & informal activities in health care is emphasized, & the pros & cons of regulation vs privatization are discussed. 26 References. Modified HA
