Historisch besef en perspectief in recent etnografisch onderzoek

Samenvatting

Recent trends in the use of history, both as consciousness & as process, in anthropology are explored, & several illustrative cases are reviewed. The many different ways that time is represented & historical material employed in ethnographic research & writing indicate that the diachronic perspective is fragmented. In addition, a common conceptual framework, coherent research agenda, & shared goals are lacking. In spite of the increasing frequency with which the term "historical anthropology" is being used, such a specialty does not in fact exist, & may not even be desirable, since history should inform any anthropological analysis. 28 References.
