Samenvatting

To analyze differences in the effects of political-economic systems on social reproduction, questionnaire data were gathered in 1978 from Czechoslovaks (N = 17,432) & in 1982 from Dutch respondents (N = 2,677). These countries' sharply contrasting post-WWII situations are compared to determine their effects on the social mobility process. Although the relationship between social background, education, & occupation in the two nations was not the same, the differences were constant over time & therefore could not be attributed to political-economic development. 3 Tables, 1 Figure, 18 References.
