Samenvatting

A model is presented that attempts to explain the origin & persistence of career differences between men & women within firms & government agencies. The model is characterized by a structural-individualistic approach & integrates elements from both sociological & economic theories. Individual actors are assumed to strive for maximal goal attainment. Also, the holistic concept of the organization is replaced by a concept in which the behavior of the organization is regarded as a product of the interaction between groups & individuals within the organization. The interdependence between employer & worker behavior -- ie, between demand & supply factors -- in determining workers' careers is emphasized. 32 References. Modified HA
