Samenvatting

An investigation of social inequality in the reading of different book genres, based on analysis of questionnaire data obtained from Dutch adults (N = 312) in 1988. Theories based on cultural competencies, social approval, & restrictions imposed by time & money were used to construct an explanatory model, which had little predictive power for the number of books read, but was useful in relating book genres to different social groups. It is suggested that more research be performed on the significance of genres & reading behavior in society. 3 Tables, 29 References. Adapted from the source document.
