Samenvatting

To investigate how a respondent's mood may influence his answers on emotionally sensitive items, interview data were obtained from young Dutch adults (N = 1,775, ages 18-26) concerning: (1) work situation & unemployment; (2) intimate relationships; & (3) networking with important people. Rs' moods were measured at 2 different times during the interviews. Analysis shows that answering questions about sensitive topics may produce an unpleasant mood, leading to more negative responses to questions with an evaluative component. Answers to subsequent questions may be correlated from mood effects rather than from a real relationship between the variables. It is recommended that additional research be performed with a more sophisticated experimental technique. 2 Tables, 5 Figures, 19 References. Adapted from the source document.
