Samenvatting

An investigation of the impact of religion & socioeconomic status on the childrearing orientations of Dutch parents, based on questionnaire data gathered in 1986 from families (N = 449) of the orthodox Dutch Reformed Church compared with a nationally representative sample (N = 490) from 1972 (see Meijnen, G. W., Maatschappelijke achtergronden van intellectuele ontwikkeling ([Social Backgrounds of Intellectual Development] Groningen: Wolters Noordhoff, 1977). Results show that childrearing orientations in religious families do not differ from those of other families, although they are less dependent on the family's socioeconomic status. 4 Tables.
