Labor processes in small organizations are discussed in terms of the theses of: (1) control, which relates to characteristics of employment relations & the division of labor; & (2) flexible specialization, which refers to the meso/macro level. Small companies are viewed as organizations that have the ability to respond to environmental changes flexibly. However, it is possible that flexibility might be understood as a specific type of control that does not necessarily result in the multifunctional labor content typical of that implied by flexible specialization. 43 References.
