The "art world" is often used as an empirical concept to study the environment in which the arts are produced & enjoyed. However, the definition of the concept is complicated by the incorporation of several essential processes, resulting in descriptively & analytically unsound ideas. A literature review illustrates the major schools of thought on the art world. A new concept is developed stressing the mutual interdependence of art with the art world. Art world processes can be explained in terms of a model with structural, cultural, & psychological factors. 18 References. Adapted from the source document.
