Samenvatting

To investigate the influence of education, income, sex, age, & general interest in political information on watching TV news reports & reading about politics in newspapers, interview data were obtained in 1989 from a nationally representative sample of 956 Dutch respondents (Rs) ages 16-73. Analysis reveals that the more highly educated, wealthier Rs paid more attention to politics than the less well educated, poorer Rs. Additionally, men paid more attention to politics than did women. Of course, a higher educational level usually correlates with stronger interest in reading. Increasing age correlates positively with the amount of time spent watching political reports on TV but has no effect on the frequency of reading newspapers. 1 Table, 2 Figures, 17 References.
