Samenvatting

To determine public attitudes toward AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) in the Netherlands, interview data were obtained in 1987 from 2,000 Dutch ages 16-80. Increasing age & low levels of education were found to correlate negatively with acceptance of AIDS victims. Negative feelings toward homosexuals were the best predictor of poor acceptance. Authoritarian attitudes were more relevant in accounting for lack of acceptance than was personal fear of being infected. Findings are compared with those of similar studies in other Western nations. 7 Tables, 43 References. Adapted from the source document as translated by M. Meeks.
