Samenvatting

Patterns of values among young Dutch adults are investigated, based on 1991 questionnaire data obtained from 687 former graduates of upper-level secondary schools. Seven primary orientations are identified: (1) starting one's own family; (2) maintaining physical health; (3) community work; (4) professional development; (5) Christian religiosity; (6) aesthetics; & (7) good family relations. The assumption that an individualization of values from traditional social contexts has been overestimated -- eg, religious affiliation seems to be one of the key factors having an impact on value orientations. Special attention is given to the influence of New Age ideas. 3 Tables, 82 References. Adapted from the source document.
