The interpretation of the growth of the Dutch Evangelical movement as a rise in religious fundamentalism is scrutinized. While fundamentalism involves the mobilization of religious orthodoxy against modernization, the Dutch Evangelical movement is ambivalent in this regard, in that it protests modernity with the aid of modern technology. The Evangelicals' protest in the Netherlands is seen as cultural, not sociostructural, & they lack the militancy generally associated with fundamentalism. 24 References.
