Samenvatting

Recent statistical data on the Afscheiding (schism) of communities in the northern Dutch provinces of Groningen, Friesland, & Drenthe from the established church, 1834-1836, allow this development to be analyzed as a process of innovational diffusion. Diffusion theory predicts that a plot of the cumulative number of schismatic communities over time will take the form of an S-curve.
