Samenvatting

Analysis of semistructured interview data from 120 youth collected annually 1988-1990 reveals wide variations among respondents as to when they accomplish different passages to adulthood. Such passages include first job, moving away from the parent's home, first sexual experience, marriage, & childbearing. Both standard & individualized trajectories can be differentiated for gender & social class. It is concluded that individualization of life course leads to the loss of the natural distinction of the term "youth" as a transitional phase from childhood to adulthood. 1 Table, 1 Graph, 48 References.
