Samenvatting

To explore the transmission of political orientations, 10,248 Dutch students ages 15-17 provided questionnaire data on their own & their parents' political preferences. Students from both general secondary & college preparatory schools were included. It was determined that, after considering socioeconomic class & religion, a direct influence can be seen by the parents' political party preference on that of their children. Although the mothers' influence on daughters is greater than the fathers', no such difference is observed for the sons. Surprisingly, the frequency with which the adolescents discuss politics with their parents had no effect on the intergenerational transmission of party preference. 3 Tables, 39 References.
