Samenvatting

Two explanations of the difference in religious participation between working & nonworking women in the Netherlands are examined: (1) job demands lessen time & energy to participate in religion, & (2) religious participation has a conservative impact on women's labor force participation. Analysis using church attendance as the measure of religious participation supports the conservative effect explanation. Differences in the religious participation & labor market behavior of Dutch Reformed, Roman Catholic, & Christian Reformed women are discussed. 5 Tables, 28 References.
