Samenvatting

Dutch universities have maneuvered themselves into the position where they have become excessively dependent on student enrollment statistics. This situation holds true in many other countries as well. However, only recently have the universities begun to reexamine their budgeting priorities in terms of supply & demand. The excessive attention paid to enrollments detracts from concerns over the quality of instruction. More attention needs to be paid to reasons behind the dropout rate. M. Meeks
