Samenvatting

A. E. Kersten's (1996) study of the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research, 1947-1988, traces organizational & policy developments, giving insights into the tense relationship among the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences, universities, & nonacademic research centers. Although sociology in particular & the social sciences in general have always received some research funds, their proportion of the total research budget has varied from year to year & has always been much smaller than the amount awarded to the natural sciences. Special attention is given to the question of whether the pluriform organization of Dutch sociological research offers only mixed chances for success or whether this structure actually provided sociologists with various advantages. Also explored is the possibility for greater cooperation with the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research. 5 References. M. Meeks
