Analysis of 1990 questionnaire data from 788 Dutch families with at least one child, age 9-16, shows that the religious factor (church attendance, Christian worldview, denomination, & innerworldly view) does help account for childrearing practices. Twice as much variance can be explained when religiosity is considered along with education as compared to education alone. While the influence of denomination & church attendance is not strong, the influence of worldview is very pronounced. Parents with a Christian worldview tend to emphasize conformity with external authority & parental rules, & are more likely to punish their children & demand obedience. Those parents with an innerwordly viewpoint act to develop the child's sense of autonomy, responsibility, & affection. 2 Tables, 3 Figures, 20 References. Adapted from the source document.
