With reference to recent poverty research in the Netherlands, in particular, the report, Tweedeling in perspectief ([Bipartition in Perspective] 1996) by the Scientific Council for Government Policies (WRR), the reliability of data & the descriptive & explanatory adequacy of the conceptual & terminological apparatus utilized in these studies are challenged, & reservations are expressed regarding the definition of poverty & poverty level, income criteria for poor populations accounting for diachronic changes, & the confusion between the notions of distribution vs bipartition.
