Samenvatting

Since the mid-1960s, the Roman Catholic church in the Netherlands has changed from a very orthodox & uniform community to a highly secularized & pluriform one; although a few small, highly orthodox organizations still exist, it has been suggested (eg, Winkeler, L., 1995) that few Orthodox Catholics reside among the general population. To test this claim, a study was conducted based on data from 297 respondents (Rs) to the European Value Survey who viewed themselves as Catholics. Using a funneling method consisting of seven increasingly dogmatic Catholic questions, it was found that none of the Rs answered all questions positively; therefore, none of these Catholics can be viewed as Orthodox. It was observed that younger vs older generations tended to reject Orthodox Catholicism. 3 References. Adapted from the source document.
