Abstract

One of the areas, where there seems to be a problematic relation between religious experience and christian beliefs, is the music in the liturgy for the youth. The hymns young people prefer to sing are based rather on their own religious experiences than on common liturgical habits. In this study we try to demonstrate the importance of the specific dynamic structure of a single youth-service for the meaning of the hymns in it. The hymns are constitutive elements for the structure, but at the same time, the hymns derive their meaning from the specific dynamic structure of the service. The method used in this study is the dynamic-structural research method for spirituality. One of the characteristics and advantages of this method is that the tension between religious experience and christian beliefs is totally preserved, so that the richness of the research object won't be damaged. An important conclusion is that in the hymns, young people try to express their experience of unjustice and their hopes and expectations for a fundamental change.
