Nieuw liturgisch meubilair in protestantse kerken
Abstract
After an age-long period with liturgically a strong emphasis on the preaching of the word and hence architectonically on the pulpit, between ca 1930 and 1980 the liturgical movement focused the attention on the sacrament. As a result the communion table was often positioned on a central place. In recent decades there is a more balanced approach to the different elements of the liturgy, accompanied by attention for the active participation of the community. This is expressed in the equal arrangement of the different components of the furnishing. In many new churches the pulpit is replaced by or amalgamated with the lectern. Recently, the paschal candle is positioned next to the baptismal font. The designing of the liturgical furnishings shows a great diversity with differences in the quality and use of materials.
