Samenvatting

Dramatization or Normalization? The Cultural Construction of Teenage Sexuality in the United States and the Netherlands. In a study of cultural conceptions of teenage sexuality in the Netherlands and the US, 71% of Dutch parents interviewed would allow their teenage child to sleep with a boy or girl friend at home, only 7% of US parents would do so. This cultural difference in teenage sexuality is analyzed at four levels: (1) terms, expressions, and characteristics of teenage sexuality; (2) images of the adolescent maturation process; (3) parent-held principles of family life; and (4) the impact of Dutch and US societal differences on teenage sexuality. 29 References.
