Samenvatting

Introduction: 30 years AST (Amsterdam's Sociology Journal). This article briefly describes the start, evolution, and end of AST. The journal was first published in 1974 as a result of the so-called "sociology crisis" and because there was a need for theoretical discussions. The articles in the journal were well written and geared towards a broad range of intellectual readers, for which it gained national fame and recognition. In the early 1980s, the AST adopted a program for the first time, namely that sociology must be considered an all-encompassing societal science. To this end, a historical-comparative approach, in particular represented by Norbert Elias's figuration or process sociology, was emphasized. Throughout the years, the AST has covered an amazingly wide array of subjects. In conclusion, the article describes the reasons for the merger between AST and another sociology journal. A. Michaux
